CRDS (Contribution au Remboursement de la Dette Sociale)

The CRDS (Contribution au Remboursement de la Dette Sociale) is a social contribution deducted in France from various types of income, including wages. The revenue generated by this contribution is used to repay debt within the French social security system.

Like the CSG, the CRDS is deducted directly through payroll. As a result, it also has an impact on employees' net salary.

What does the CRDS mean for employers?

Employers are responsible for the correct calculation, withholding and reporting of the CRDS on their employees' wages. The contribution forms part of the social charges processed through the French payroll system.

CRDS and CSG

The CRDS is almost always listed alongside the CSG (Contribution Sociale Généralisée) on French payslips. Although both contributions are deducted in the same way, they serve different purposes:

  • CSG finances the French social security system.
  • CRDS is used to repay social security debt.

Both contributions are a standard part of French payroll administration.
