Index de l'Égalité Professionnelle
The Index de l’Égalité Professionnelle is a mandatory indicator used by French companies to measure workplace gender equality. The index assesses several factors, including pay gaps, promotions and salary increases between men and women.
Companies with at least 50 employees are required to calculate and publish this index on an annual basis. The score is expressed on a scale of 100 points.
Why is the index important?
The French government uses the index to promote gender equality within companies and to identify and highlight any existing disparities.
The assessment takes into account, among other factors:
- Pay differences between men and women.
- Differences in pay increases.
- Differences in promotions.
- Pay increases following maternity leave.
- The representation of women among the highest-paid employees.
What does this mean for employers?
Employers that fall within the scope of this obligation must publish their score on an annual basis and submit it to the relevant authorities. A low score may lead to corrective measures and, in certain cases, even financial penalties.
New pay transparency rules
The Professional Equality Index has been an important tool for measuring and monitoring pay gaps between women and men for several years. However, the regulatory framework continues to evolve. With the European Pay Transparency Directive, employers will face additional obligations regarding salary information, reporting requirements, and the correction of unjustified pay gaps.
